The best GEO agency for law firms, and how to judge it yourself

What a firm should ask before hiring someone to get it named in AI answers, the realistic options side by side, and our honest ranking.

Who wrote this: This is AI Syndicate's own comparison, published on our own site. We rank ourselves first. Below is exactly how we judged it, including where other options beat us, so you can check the reasoning.

Quick answer

The best GEO partner for a law firm measures which AI answers name the firm for its practice areas and city, fixes the site and listings, re-proves the change, and lets your firm approve every claim. We rank AI Syndicate first because it does all of that with published prices. A tracking tool plus staff time is cheapest.

What does a GEO agency do for a law firm?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It is the work of getting your firm named in the answers AI tools give: ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.

People now ask these tools things like "best estate planning attorney in [city]" or "do I need a lawyer for a car accident in [state]?". The answer names a few firms, or none. A GEO partner works on your firm being one of the names, for the matters and places you actually handle.

Two technical facts shape the work:

  • Google's AI answers use the normal Google index. Google says a page only needs to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet to appear as a link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and that no special files or schema are required. (Google Search Central) In our experience, a firm with a weak site in Google is usually weak here too.
  • ChatGPT search needs OpenAI's search crawler let in. OpenAI says sites that opt out of its OAI-SearchBot crawler will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. (OpenAI) A good partner checks on day one that your site doesn't block it.

What should a law firm look for in a GEO partner?

Five tests. They follow our general GEO agency ranking, adjusted for legal work.

TestWhat a good answer sounds likeRed flag
Practice-area measurement"We track the questions clients ask about your practice areas, city by city, on each engine."Only checks whether AI knows your firm name
Fix execution"We change your site, attorney pages, schema and listings, or give you the exact fix."A PDF and a goodbye
Accuracy"We check what AI says about your attorneys, offices and practice areas, and correct it."No plan for wrong answers
Proof"Here is the baseline, the re-check, and how each result is labelled."Big percentages with no source
Advertising rules"Your firm signs off on every claim. We make no promises about case outcomes.""We'll make you the #1 injury lawyer in the state"
On advertising rules: we are not your ethics counsel, and no GEO agency should act like it. Ask any partner how they handle review and sign-off on claims, then have your own compliance counsel make the final call under the rules that apply to your firm.
On reviews and testimonials: the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's 2024 rule bans fake reviews and testimonials, including AI-generated ones. (FTC) A partner that offers to manufacture social proof is a risk, not an asset.

What are the realistic options for a law firm?

Five honest ways to do it, ranked.

1. AI Syndicate (GEO agency plus its own software)

We run a software platform and an agency together. The platform tracks who AI names across 10 AI engines, flags wrong facts AI states about your firm, scores whether AI tools can read your site, and gives you a ranked fix list. Self-serve plans have every feature: $99, $299 or $999 a month, depending on seats and markets. AI Managed ($3,000 to $8,500 a month) adds a dedicated account manager. AI Command, from $25,000, is our done-for-you tier: our team builds and runs the work, with one client per territory in your category.

The trade-off: done-for-you is not cheap, and the exclusivity means your category in your area may already be taken. We are also a young company, founded in 2026.

2. A specialist GEO agency

Often sharp on AI search strategy. In our experience, a common gap is follow-through: an audit or a plan, then the tracking and the site changes come back to you. Ask who re-measures, how, and how often.

3. A legal marketing or SEO agency adding AI

SEO (search engine optimization) is ranking in Google's list of links. Your firm may already have a legal SEO agency that knows its site. That base matters, because Google's AI answers draw on the same index. The risk is "AI" being a relabel of old work. Ask them to show how they measure whether your firm is named inside an AI answer, per engine.

4. A DIY tracking tool

The cheapest route. A tool shows where you stand. It does not decide what to change or make the change. It fits a small firm with someone who is comfortable editing the website.

5. In-house marketing

Larger firms with a marketing team can build this skill. Full control and full context. The cost is ramp time, because the work spans content, schema, listings and several engines that each behave differently.

What about legal directories?

Directory profiles are one of many sources AI tools can read. Keeping them accurate helps. But a directory listing is not the same as the AI naming your firm on its own, and it doesn't fix your own site.

Why do we rank AI Syndicate first for law firms?

  • One loop, not three vendors. Measure, find the reason you are missing, fix it, re-measure. It happens in one place.
  • Accuracy is built in. Our Hallucination Watch feature asks AI tools checkable questions about your firm and flags wrong answers, with the engine that said it. For a firm, a wrong office address or a practice area you dropped years ago is a real problem.
  • Published prices. Every plan is on our pricing page.
  • No outcome promises. Our methodology says in writing that we don't guarantee a ranking or a citation, and never invent a fact to win one.

The honest limit: our client work includes a law firm, but we have not published a named legal result. We only publish results a client agrees to be named in, labelled as measured by us or reported by the client. See results for what is public today.

FAQ

Common questions

Can a GEO agency guarantee my firm is the first lawyer ChatGPT recommends?

No. AI answers change by question, engine and day, and no one controls another company's model. A fair promise is measured change against a baseline.

Does GEO replace our legal SEO?

No. They share a base: a site machines can find, read and trust. Google's AI answers use the normal Google index, so good SEO helps GEO.

Do small firms and solo attorneys need this?

In our experience, a focused solo attorney or small firm can do well, because clarity about practice area and city matters more than size. Start with a free audit and fix what it finds before paying anyone.

Who approves what gets published about our firm?

Your firm does. A good partner drafts and fixes; your attorneys and compliance counsel approve anything that makes a claim.
