The calculator

Quick answer

Estimate the leads you get from AI today, then how many more you would get if AI named you more often. With a roofer's starting numbers (40 leads a month, 30% close rate, $12,000 a job, 30% of buyers asking AI first, AI score 40 raised to 80), that is about 83 more leads, 25 more jobs and $299,557 more revenue a year, or about $224,668 in year one while it ramps up. An estimate, not a promise.

How does the AI Revenue Calculator work?

It follows six steps. Every number is one you can change.

  1. How often AI names you. We estimate this from your AI score (0–100): about 10% of AI answers at a score of 0, rising in a straight line to about 55% at 100. This line is our own estimate, not a published study.
  2. Leads that come through AI today. If AI rarely names you, few of your leads come from it. We weigh the buyers who ask AI by your rate, and everyone else by a middle rate (the score-50 rate, 32.5%). With 30% of buyers asking AI and a score of 40, that is about 27% of your leads.
  3. Extra AI leads a month. Your AI leads × (the rate at your target score ÷ the rate today − 1). The same buyers are asking. More of them see your name.
  4. Extra leads a year. × 12.
  5. Extra clients a year. × your close rate (the % of leads that become clients).
  6. Added revenue a year. × what one new client is worth to you. This is the yearly figure once you reach the target score. For year one we assume a straight six-month ramp, which works out to 75% of it.

Open Get a more exact number to add your yearly revenue, clients, profit margin, repeat buyers and marketing spend. Then the free report also shows added profit, the lifetime value of those clients, what the same leads would cost in ads, and how many new clients a year would pay for AI search work.

Where do the starting numbers come from?

BrightLocal's 2026 survey of 1,002 US adults found 45% had used ChatGPT or another AI tool for local business recommendations, up from 6% the year before (published 11 Feb 2026). Using AI once is not the same as using it for every purchase, so we start lower.

How does the calculator keep the answer honest?

Two checks run on every change.

  • Do your numbers add up? Leads × 12 × close rate × value of a client should land near the yearly revenue you typed. If it is less than half or more than double, the calculator tells you which numbers disagree.
  • A ceiling. Added revenue is never shown above 25% of your yearly revenue: the one you typed, or what your leads add up to if you didn't type one. The raw math can say more. We would rather show a number you can believe. And if your leads × close rate × value of a client add up to more than $100M a year, it asks you to check those numbers.

We also show the steps. Click Show the math and every multiplication is on screen.

What does a real example look like?

Here is the roofing starting set, step by step.

The calculator does not round until the last step, so hand math with rounded numbers lands a little off. At a 25% margin that is about $74,889 in added profit a year once you reach score 80.

Why does AI recommend some businesses and not others?

AI tools name the businesses they can read and trust. In our audits the same few things come up again and again:

  • Clear facts on your own site: what you do, where, for whom, and your prices or process.
  • Hidden code that states those facts, called schema (short labels search engines and AI read).
  • Pages AI crawlers can open: not blocked, fast, and with plain-text copies.
  • Proof from other places: reviews, directories and articles that say the same thing your site says.

See what an AI citation is and the GEO mistakes we see every week.

What can't the calculator tell you?

  • Your real AI pick rate. The calculator estimates it from your score. Measuring it means asking ChatGPT, Gemini and the others your buyers' real questions, many times.
  • How fast it happens. AI tools update on their own schedule. Work done this month can take weeks or months to show up in answers.
  • Your competitors' moves. If a rival fixes their site first, your share can drop.

Treat the number as a starting point for a conversation, not a forecast.

FAQ

Questions about the calculator

Is the AI Revenue Calculator free?

Yes. You see the headline number and the full math without giving anything. The profit report asks for your name, email and website. Confirm your email and we send your AI score.

What is an AI score?

A 0–100 check of how ready your website is for AI search: whether AI crawlers can read it, whether it states clear facts about your business, and whether it carries the hidden code AI tools use. Put in your website and the calculator measures it.

Where does the 30% of buyers who ask AI first come from?

It is our starting point, set below BrightLocal's 2026 survey, where 45% of the 1,002 US adults asked had used ChatGPT or another AI tool for local business recommendations. Change it to fit your market.

How accurate is the result?

It is an estimate built from your own numbers plus three estimates of ours: how often AI names a business at each score, how other channels compare, and a six-month ramp-up. The calculator shows every step so you can check it, and it warns you when your numbers don't add up.

Can I share my results?

Yes. Copy a link to these numbers makes a link that opens the calculator with your inputs filled in. It carries your inputs only, never your name, email, website, yearly revenue or ad spend.

Can I put the calculator on my own website?

Yes. Click Add this calculator to your site and copy the code. It shows a small card that opens this page.

Want the real number, not an estimate?

We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI your buyers' real questions and show you who gets named. Then we fix what's in the way.
